November 6 is a pretty important day for presidents, but the one we were most interested in was the President and Vice Chancellor of the University of the Fraser Valley, Dr. Mark Evered.
Mark, along with Satwinder Bains (Director of the Centre for Indo-Canadian Studies) and Jackie Hogan (CFO) were arriving for their week-long visit to UFV Chandigarh.
Dilmeet was pacing. She was left in charge as Gurneet went off to Delhi to meet the visitors.
"The plane is on time. They have landed. They are still waiting for luggage. They are just 1/2 kilometre away," she reported.
Our custodial staff, Suresh, Brojinder and Rahde polished themselves up after spending the day polishing every inch of the facility.
Students waited patiently. This was after five in the evening but they wanted to stay and give the visitors a warm welcome.
Devinder and Amandeep were already in costume for the dress rehearsal of their Bhangra team.
Dilmeet adjusted Vaishnavi's shawl--which probably has a name that I should know.
Ishpreet, too, looked handsome in his costume. Tejeshewar and Jyotbir were wishing they had joined the Bhangra team.
And the lovely Priyanka in blue!
At last President Mark arrived. He looked very happy and alert despite having travelled from Canada, landing in Delhi around one in the morning, then attending a meeting before catching the 3:15 pm flight to Chandigarh.
The students presented flowers to the guests. Satwinder has been to Chandigarh many times before but this is Jackie's first visit.
Although they have a very busy schedule ahead, they will have a wonderful time.
The colourful Bhangra Team performed their routine perfectly.
President Mark looked on with pride. This is his little campus on the other side of the globe.
The team posed for a photo with the guests before getting back to their practice. Will they be able to perform for the PM tomorrow as they hope?
I am sure Mark, Satwinder and Jackie were looking forward to a good rest before they get on with the business here.
So good to welcome good friends from home!
