Crunch Time in BUS 100 and BUS 304.........

Having reported on the projects of the Advertising class, I must now give equal coverage to the project work done by the first and third/fourth year students.  They were all studying Canadian companies, and class presentations were finished this past week as well.

In Business 100, Arzoo and Hartej spoke on behalf of their team who had studied Canadian Tire.
Pukhraj explained the SWOT Analysis for his team's company, India's favourite Research In Motion.

This is a huge project for first year students as they examine all aspects of the company they have chosen.  Theirs is a survey course so they study all facets of business.

Tim Hortons hasn't moved into India yet but when they do, these students will be the first in line.  Sapna and Sumanpreet presented their group's analysis of this Canadian icon.

Bombardier was the company chosen by Ranveer's team.  He started with a brief history of the company.

Tarundeep continued with some financial data that was very clearly illustrated in this slide.

Bombardier is now in India supplying some cars for the Metro in Delhi.

Arbaaz and Chahat talked about our favourite airline, WestJet, and the new aircraft they are purchasing for short regional flights.

Another SWOT Analysis, this time by Ishit as he discusses RONA.  I don't think this type of huge hardware store exists anywhere in India yet.
Finally, Anmol and Nischey introduced Metro, a company in the food industry about which we in Western Canada know very little.

Although this has been a big project, most students became very involved with their company and have learned a lot.

The developing presentation skills will be so valuable to them as well.

Business 304 students are experts at presenting after two or three years of experience.  Their course is Organizational Theory and Design so their focus was more on the structure and dynamics of the companies they chose.

Opinder is explaining the organizational structure of Rogers Communications.

Karan needed a big sip of coffee after he finished talking about Tim Hortons.

Will a member of his group be the one to bring Tim Hortons  to India to challenge Cafe Coffee Day?

Gurmeet, Ankita and Sukul chose Safeway Canada.

There are not many supermarket-style shops here yet although we have seen one in the modern Alpha One Mall in Amritsar.  Many of the grocery stores here are very small spaces packed high to the ceiling with products.

Arjunveer and his group were surprised to learn how large was the Canadian National Railway Company.

The food industry was a popular choice with Sourav, Divya and Jiten choosing Loblaws' to study.

India loves food and we love the food in India!

And, a final group of BlackBerry Boys--and Girls!

Roopleen, Gitish, Ratanjit and Arpit say the BlackBerry 10 to be released in January 2013 better be a "whiz bang product" if the company is to recover.

Big project but it gave the students the opportunity to apply the complex theory and endless models that they encountered in the course.  My hat is off to them all!
