A Canada Day at UFV Chandigarh...........

Our Bhangra Team did it!  After some uncertainty, change of venue, etc. the team performed for Prime Minister Stephen Harper and his delegation this evening.

The students were so excited to shake hands and have photos taken with a Canadian Prime Minister.  They have worked so hard over the past week to perfect their strenuous routine.

Earlier in the day, the team members, along with many other students, were dressed a little differently.  Business suits were the dress code for the visit to the campus of our Member of Parliament from Abbotsford, Hon. Ed Fast, Minister of International Trade and Minister for the Asia-Pacific Gateway.

Satwinder, Adam, Kathryn, Adi, Stacy and Jackie were with the group waiting for Ed and several business representatives to arrive.

Just about twins, Mark and George, were admiring the sign.

The dazzling Dilmeet was giving the students their last minute orders.  She has been working diligently to make all the events of this week run smoothly.

Gurneet, too, has been dealing with the complex logistics of this visit.  Definitely, India insists that correct protocol and strict security measures be in place for visiting dignitaries.  With Gurneet is a gentleman from the Canadian High Commission in Delhi.

Milanpreet was one of the students invited to join the meeting that was held with the Minister.

President Mark welcomed Minister Fast to the campus with a bouquet of flowers.  Of course they meet frequently at home, but the flower presentation was a first!

As we expected, Ed stopped to chat with the students, and told them about his days with George on Abbotsford Council.

A very short, but productive meeting took place.  Opinder (seated by George) was the other student invited to this meeting.  He is a Canadian citizen completing his UFV BBA in India.

All the students were waiting outside to bid farewell as Ed and his delegation headed off for more events in their one-day stop in Chandigarh.

Everyone at UFV Chandigarh very much appreciated his visit.

Gurneet then gathered the faculty and staff for their meeting with President Mark.

The men decided they wanted a men's picture with Mark.

So, of course, the women had to have one as well.

Amidst this excitement, we did keep an eye on the presidential election in the US.  Congratulations President Obama!  I, for one, am very happy!
