PIGS? Not meant as a derogatory term but an acronym for another creation of Dr. Shaw. This is a social group, the Punjab International Gourmet Society.
The group meets once a month for a potluck meal--this one a brunch. People from all foreign countries living in Chandigarh are invited. I am not sure how Dr. Shaw manages to contact so many people but today he gathered about 30 on the lawn of his home.
Everyone brought food, of course, and the selection was great--everything from mac and cheese to cherry pie.
We five Canadians, not much into food preparation these days, contributed Subway sandwiches and salads.
Other countries represented included Germany (employees of a manufacturing business), UK (employees of a pharmaceutical company), and US (owners of a paediatric hospital).
Many were young families with small children.
An interesting group!
We chose the trusty tuk tuks for the travel from our Sector 33 home to Dr. Shaw's residence in Sector 8.
Note the use of CD's.
We felt a little squished with five in one tuk tuk, although we have seen them filled with many, many more people.
It is such a fast and efficient way to get around the city--and inexpensive when you have Adam negotiating the fare.
Later in the day, George and I were invited for tea at the home of Shelly and Atul Mandhar.
We had met Shelly before but were happy to now meet her husband, Atul, and daughter, Arshya.
Shelly has been so helpful to us (she directed me to Ali), and we enjoyed our visit to her beautiful home.
It is good to hear that Shelly plans to visit Anu in the US next spring. |
