Another festival day!
I was happily eating my breakfast this morning when I read in the newspaper that this was Karva Chauth, the day when married women are supposed to fast from sunrise to moonrise to ensure that their husbands are safe and live long lives.
Oops! Sorry George!
Then I remembered that he often says, "Married men don't live longer. It just seems that way." So, I continued to eat my breakfast.
This celebration takes place on the fourth day of the full moon and nine days before Diwali.
Women get dressed very smartly for the day. Newlywed wives dress again in their wedding finery.
The sweet little girl visiting downstairs was happy to show off her mehndi.
Quite coincidentally, I had booked a hair appointment with Ali. His shop was just hopping. He not only had many clients who were getting ready for an evening of celebration, but he was also short of staff because female staff were taking the day off to honour their husbands.
But, he got the job done.
I honoured my husband by helping with some work at the university.
A quiet Friday, but we enjoyed the gorgeous sunshine (30 degrees celsius) and the many beautiful flowers around our neighbourhood.
