Sukhna Lake - More of Chandigarh City Beautiful

Four wilting recent arrivals from Canada.
We visited Sukhna Lake just a few days after our arrival.  This is another unique feature of Chandigarh, again from the hand of Le Corbusier.  It is a manmade lake, created in 1958, covering about three square kilometres and situated just on the outskirts of the city.
Part of the team who look after us, Gurneet and Aditya.  They are on duty 24/7.

No power boats are allowed on the lake either but you can rent some paddle craft.  There are issues with pollution and low water levels though the 15 minute monsoon we had today probably helped that!  An environmental committee has been formed and they are lobbying government to make improvements to save this beautiful spot.

This was a very welcoming monument for us to see during our first few days here.
The Open Hand is a symbol of the city.

This is the entrance to the promenade that goes along one side of the lake--a future jogging challenge for  us.

Oh, the beautiful flowers that are in public and private gardens in this city!
These are at the entrance to the lake.

The lake inhabitants--white swans.  They follow their leader until someone starts throwing them food
and then it is every bird for him/herself!
