This is our home for the next three and a half months.
We live upstairs, and Mr. Sodhi and his family live downstairs. He owns the house.
Our cook (and general do everything person), Rohit, lives in the quarters above us.
The university is about two kilometres away in Sector 32. There is a car and driver to transport us. Only the very brave and skillful people can drive here! The streets are filled with vehicles of all types from cars to bicycles to motorcycles to tuk tuks to bicycle cabs to horse drawn carts and many pedestrians. Somehow they manage to merge together and get where they want to go--with a lot of honking.
Gurneet tells us that the honking says, "I love you!" There must be a whole lot of love in this city.
We do plan to walk to or home from the university some days but first we have to learn the route. Fortunately, Chandigarh is a very organized city but most streets don't have names. The landmarks become very important markers.
So, we climb the side stairs up to our spacious home that we share with three Canadian UFV students and one Chandigarh UFV staff member.
Welcome to our front door!
