Actually, this is just our street after the deluge this morning. I wish there was some way to take photos of rain! There was lightning and thunder, and the raindrops were bouncing up four inches on the railing around our terrace. But, it lasted only about 20 minutes and then the skies cleared and it was a beautiful day.
The streets were not completely deserted during the downpour though it was quieter. This family had places to go and things to do.
We have had only a few monsoons in the time we have been here and word is that they will soon end completely.
Because the ground is clay, the water sits on top. So, our jog this morning was a bit like steeplechase practice as we were leaping over puddles. Good cross training and it is only water.
But, I had read in the Chandigarh Tribune this morning that they are having cases of dengue fever appear in the city. Apparently, the mosquito that carries it breeds in standing water in the urban areas. We have medications and vaccinations for all types of things but not dengue fever.
Fortunately, there aren't too many mosquitos around--although it only takes one. We will be careful!
We have our own pest control system at our house. These little geckos entertain us while we eat our dinner and they eat theirs--bugs, bugs, bugs. Usually there are several--on the outside of the window, fortunately, because they are not my favourite creatures. However, they do a job!
Our big adventure today was our first ride on a bicycle rickshaw. It was great, although a little scary as the driver made his way into a busy traffic circle.
He wouldn't name a price so we paid him 50 rupees which we now realize was about twice the worth. Funny that when we went out later in the day, a couple of other rickshaw drivers tried to give us a ride. That hasn't happened before so I guess the word spread quickly.
