So much to see in Delhi.....

I really did love that city!

We visited the India Gate just around sunset.  This is a 42 metre high monument to honour the 90,000 soldiers who died in World War I and the Anglo-Afghan War.

What a magnificent monument!

The site is in central Delhi and the monument is surrounded by acres of grass parkland.  Although there were many visitors, it didn't feel crowded.

A military band was setting up for some type of performance.

The names of the soldiers are engraved on the monument.

The Canopy is located in front of India Gate.  Originally, a statue of George V stood under this canopy.  It has now been moved to another location.

(We should have posed George P inside for a photo op!)

The area has a water feature and many peaceful spots for visitors.

The way some people in India use their heads!  I am always taking photos of the loads that are being carried this way.  This vendor is selling some type of snack food.  When someone wants to purchase from him, he sets down the tripod, puts the container on it, makes his sale and off he goes.

Vendors were selling all types of things.

This beautiful lady made us some beaded bracelets.  She took our order when we arrived in the parking lot and had them ready for us by the time we had finished walking about.

There are so many people doing work like this just to survive.

Yes, there is also much poverty in beautiful Delhi.  We did see scenes like this as we drove around the city.  The most heartbreaking, though, was to see very small children, some carrying babies, being sent into traffic at a busy intersection to beg for money or to sell trinkets.

Many things to be proud of and still so much work to do!
