Oh so many birthdays at this time of year! It does make one wonder about the impact of Valentine's Day!!!!!
We began with celebrations for Dilmeet's birthday on Friday, November 8.
After returning from Delhi in the early morning, having escorted President Mark and crew to Agra and the Taj Mahal and seeing them off on their flight home to Canada, Dilmeet fulfilled her birthday role of hosting lunch. This was held at Mainland China--the restaurant not the country!
Back at campus, we continued to eat!
Simlee provided the multi-layered, multi-coloured birthday cake--baked on her stove top!
Someone must help with the first bite. Simlee was too kind and did not provide the usual cake facial.
Mushtaq serenaded the birthday girl.
Obviously, I don't know how to upload a video.
It was classic Mushtaq and beautifully sung.
We were happy to see Mrs. Akre when she stopped by on her way home to Shimla. She was just checking to see if we were doing a good job of looking after her boy!
Saturday, in Canada, was the BIG birthday. My amazing Mom, Bertha Kallio, turned an amazing 95 years old!!!
We were able to "attend the party" via Skype. (It is a little strange to see a party happening in your own home when you are actually on the other side of the world!)
Our granddaughter, Indi, travelled from Reno, Nevada, with her family to surprise her GG on this special day.
GG's large family (children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews) and some friends joined her for the celebration. She received greetings from family in Finland, and of course, in India.
She always sits and smiles when surrounded by family.
Sunday was Gurneet Day!
He treated us to lunch at Willow Cafe.
Angad joined the Canadian end of the table hoping it would bring him immediate dual citizenship.
The long faces were due to the longer wait for food at this end of the table.
Little brother, Ishpreet, offered Gurneet the first bite of this version of a Simlee cake.
We were very proud to present our Indian son with the car of his dreams, a Lamborghini! This is the best style of Lamborghini to own in this "crazy traffic" country.
Sunday was also the birthday of my brother-in-law. Happy Birthday to you, too, Peter!
We met more of Dilmeet's family that day as well.
This is her Naanaaji, Naaniji, Mamiji and her cousins.
Lest We Forget………….
At the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, in the middle of my Organizational Behaviour class, we paid tribute to those who have given their lives in war.
We have made some friends as we jog in our neighbourhood park. Mr. Aluwalia is one who first made us feel welcome, and today he invited us to his home for tea.
He and his wife are leaving for Dallas, Texas, on Friday to spend four months with their daughters.
Mrs. Aluwalia quickly called their niece, Prof. Manjeet Paintel, to come and meet us as well. Manjeet works at Panjab University. We were surprised to learn that she had attended the presentation made by Mark Evered and Peter Geller last week, and that she has visited the UFV Campus in Abbotsford.
It is a small world after all!
